Congratulations on your engagement! Choosing a winery wedding venue is a dream for many couples, offering a perfect blend of rustic elegance, breathtaking views, and, of course, locally crafted libations. At Stable Gate Winery, we know that finding the right setting for your big day is a huge decision. My name is Val Feldman, and my family has been catering in the Albany area since 1936. With four generations of experience making dreams come true, we want to ensure you have all the right information before you sign on the dotted line.
When you begin touring potential sites, it is easy to get swept away by the rows of vines and mountain vistas. To keep your planning on track, here are the essential questions to ask to ensure your chosen winery wedding venue aligns with your vision.

1. Ensuring a Seamless Guest Experience?
The first thing you need to know is if the vineyard venue can comfortably host your guest list. At our estate, we offer several options: our Original Dutch Barn fits up to 140 guests, the Cozy Lodge accommodates 100, and our serene non-denominational chapel is perfect for intimate gatherings of up to 50.
Ask the coordinator how the 'flow' of the day works. Can you move seamlessly from an outdoor ceremony in the Vineyard Grove to a cocktail hour at a satellite rodeo bar? Knowing the logistics helps you visualize the guest experience at each location you visit.
2. Is there a Back-up Plan for Inclement Weather?
Outdoor ceremonies are a hallmark of any vineyard wedding, but the weather doesn't always cooperate. Always ask about the "Plan B." Whether you're dreaming of a ceremony at Hudson 360 with panoramic Catskill views or a garden setting, ensure the venue has a tented option or an indoor space like our historic barn that is just as beautiful as the outdoors.
3. What is Included in the Rental Package?
Not every wedding venue is full-service. You should strictly ask for a breakdown of what the fee covers. Our barn rental includes five hours of private use, all tables, chairs, linens, and even day-of coordination. Many places charge extra for these basics, so getting a clear list helps you compare one winery wedding venue to another effectively.
4. Can We Customize the Menu and Bar?
Food is the heart of the celebration. Ask if the venue has an exclusive caterer or if you can bring your own. We partner with Birch Hill Catering to offer 100% customizable menus. Also, check the bar policies—can you have a pre-ceremony cocktail hour with estate meads, or perhaps a champagne toast?
5. Can We Create a Full Wedding Weekend?
If you have guests traveling, ask if the winery can host "extras." We love helping couples "marinate" in the wedding vibes all weekend long! From rehearsal dinners and farewell brunches to providing estate favor options, a wedding that offers a full weekend experience can make your celebration feel like a true getaway.
Choosing a winery wedding venue that is LGBTQ+ owned and operated, like ours, ensures that every couple feels welcomed and celebrated. With 90 years of catering legacy, our team is equipped to handle everything from your Pinterest inspiration to the final setup and breakdown.
