Celebrating 90 Years & Four Generations of Catering Excellence in the Capital Region

Birch Hill Catering, formerly known as Herbert’s Catering and the Feldman Family are proud to celebrate 90 years and four generations of family-owned catering in New York’s Capital Region. As the oldest standing family-owned and operated catering establishment in New
York State, Birch Hill continues a legacy rooted in hospitality, craftsmanship, and community.
To commemorate this milestone, Birch Hill Catering and Stable Gate Farm & Winery will host their Annual Wedding Show and 90th Anniversary Celebration on May 9, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM, just 15 minutes east of Albany in Schodack, NY.
A Capital Region Wedding Show Unlike Any Other
Birch Hill has been hosting wedding shows since the 1990s, and this year’s event promises to be especially memorable. The celebration will feature over 25 local wedding vendors, cake, whiskey, and wine tastings, a mimosa bar, interactive food stations, and venue tours designed to inspire prospective couples.
This event is open exclusively to engaged couples, and advance registration is required.
Honoring a Legacy Built on Passion & Resilience
Steven Feldman, third-generation owner and President of Birch Hill Catering, represents the heart of this enduring legacy. Inspired by his father and grandfather, Steven elevated the family business through his culinary training at the Culinary Institute of America and his lifelong dedication to hospitality.
With the ability to host gatherings ranging from 50 to 5,000 guests, Steven’s nearly 55 years in the catering industry are being celebrated alongside this milestone anniversary—marking both a legacy and his retirement.
As Steven's retirement begins, long-time family friend and managing partner, William Patterson, has assumed responsibility for the day-to-day operations and leadership of Birch Hill Catering. William grew up among the Feldman family and began his tenure at Birch Hill as a busser and server during high school. He continued to expand his fine dining experience at Yono's, located in downtown Albany, while in college. After graduating with degrees in Business Administration and Political Science in 2016, he spent several years working in commercial finance and project management. Following the COVID-19 pandemic, he rejoined the Birch Hill team full-time and has spent the last several years immersing himself in every facet of the business. As Steven enters his retirement, William remains committed to continuing the legacy of hospitality that Steven and the Feldmans have built.
As the fourth generation, growing up in and around the Birch Hill Catering Business, Serena started working at an early age. From her first official title “Activities Participant” Serena could be seen running around the Birch Hill Grounds with her Grandmother Felice and learning how to play the activities she’d later be running. Following college at SUNY Delhi where she pursued a degree in Veterinary Science, Serena spent a few years living in Florida; but her desire to help her father brought her back to the Birch Hill Estate. Serena used her drive for success and continued years of learning and growing, working in every facet of the industry from dish-washing, to bartending, and then to management and sales in 2019. Serena enjoys helping her father Steven and using her experience in the business to ensure the perfect day for her couples. On her days off Serena can be seen spending time with her two dogs Willow and Scooby (The Official Birch Hill Welcome Committee), or over at the farm with her three horses Sabrina, Tessa, and Doc.
A Perfect Pairing: Stable Gate Winery & Birch Hill Catering
The event will also highlight Stable Gate Winery, Barn & Vineyard, operated by Steven’s eldest daughter, Valerie Feldman. A Certified Sommelier through the Court of Master Sommeliers and culinary-trained professional, Valerie brings global experience from Tuscany, Napa, and Sonoma to the Capital Region.
Val graduated in 2010 from Endicott College on the North Shore of Boston with a Bachelor's Degree in hospitality and is the very first member of the Women's Lacrosse Hall of Fame. Not only has she broken all of the records but she also still currently holds them nearly 20 years later. Throughout her education at Endicott she pursued internships abroad in Spain, Italy and France.
For the past 15 years, Stable Gate has become a sought-after Castleton-on-Hudson wedding venue, known for its rustic elegance, relaxed atmosphere, and welcoming charm.
“We are excited to open up the doors to prospective couples and show off these beautiful spaces,” said Valerie Feldman. “This celebration is not only about food and wine, but about community and supporting family-owned businesses.”
